چکیده

This paper derives a damage evaluation law for fibres and an expression the parameter function. It also proposes approach to matrix degradation law. A proposed both constitutive model increment is developed predict intralaminar evolution in composite laminates. Failure envelopes different failure criteria are discussed term of fracture plane cracking under compressive load. The surface consistency condition applied derive plastic multiplier as function flow so that strain updated at each time stress–strain relationship will be updated. user-defined subroutine has been adopted implement model. effectiveness method examined low velocity impact. numerical findings confirm results obtained using suggested good agreement with experimental results.

Modelling low velocity impact induced damage in composite laminates

The paper presents recent progress on modelling low velocity impact induced damage in fibre reinforced composite laminates. It is important to understand the mechanisms of barely visible impact damage (BVID) and how it affects structural performance. To reduce labour intensive testing, the development of finite element (FE) techniques for simulating impact damage becomes essential and recent ef...

Low Velocity Impact Damage Prediction in Laminated Composite Plates

In this paper, a finite element model is presented for the transient analysis of low velocity impact, and the impact induced damage in the composite plate subjected to low velocity impact is studied. The failure criteria suggested by Choi and Chang and the Tsai-Hill failure criteria are used for the prediction of the damage in the composite plate; then the effect of various parameters on the im...

Damage Assessment in Glass Fiber-Epoxy Matrix Composite under High Velocity Impact of Ice

This study investigated the influence of nanoclay on the impact damage resistance of glass fiber-epoxy composites under high velocity ice impact loading. Addition of 0.5 wt. % nanoclay into epoxy was shown to improve damage resistance compared to composite plates having no nanoclay platelet. The glass fiber-epoxy composites containing nanoclay brought about substantial improvement in ice impact...

Continuum damage mechanics based modeling progressive failure of woven-fabric composite laminate under low velocity impact

A continuum damage mechanics (CDM) meso-model was derived for both intraply and interply progressive failure behaviors of a 2D woven-fabric composite laminate under a transversely low velocity impact. An in-plane anisotropic damage constitutive model of a 2D woven composite ply was derived based on CDM within a thermodynamic framework, an elastic constitutive model with damage for the fibre dir...

Optimization of transparent laminates for specific energy dissipation under low velocity impact using genetic algorithm

We employ a genetic algorithm to maximize the energy dissipated per unit areal density in laminates composed of layers of poly-methyl-metha-acrylate (PMMA), adhesive and polycarbonate (PC) impacted at low velocity by a rigid hemi-spherical nosed cylinder. Sources of energy dissipation considered are plastic deformations of the PC and the PMMA, cracking of the PMMA, viscous deformations of the a...
